Meet StageBio’s featured pathologist, Dr Lynette Phillips, DVM, PhD, DACVP!
How long have you worked with StageBio?
I have been a senior pathologist with StageBio for three years.
What are your primary interests within the pathology space?
I am a board certified veterinary anatomic pathologist specializing in the preclinical evaluation of medical devices, which includes both implanted devices and interventional therapies. After 20 years in this space, I have worked on preclinical studies involving just about every organ system. I am particularly interested in cardiovascular, bone, and urological applications.
What are your most recent work accomplishments?
Most recently, I am presenting an upcoming webinar, “Key Pathology Considerations for Successful Preclinical Medical Device Studies, from Protocol to Report” on September 25 at 10am EST. Attendees will hear a comprehensive review of the best pathology practices in protocol development that are crucial to successful preclinical medical device studies.
How did you become a medical device pathologist?
Pathology is actually my second career. I was working as an engineer when I decided to attend veterinary school, after which I did a residency in anatomic pathology. After a few years of university teaching and clinical diagnostic work, I realized I needed more exposure to engineering in my professional life! I subsequently accepted a position as a preclinical studies pathologist for a major medical device company and discovered my true calling as a medical device pathologist.
What advice would you give someone who is interested in joining the pathology world?
If you love science and want to know how things work (and why they might not work), go for it! Becoming a pathologist can be a long journey, but the pathology world is so much more than just the pathologist. There are many critical roles in this space and I couldn’t do my job without the great pathology support team at StageBio.
What do you like about the StageBio culture?
The focus at StageBio is always on how we can best meet the needs of our clients. As a member of the pathology team, I appreciate how much StageBio supports and values our contribution to this mission. From initial materials delivery to report finalization, we work as an integrated team to produce high quality work within the required timeframe. It’s a very collaborative environment and I have learned much through the varied professional experiences of my StageBio colleagues.
